FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Showers again tonight and Thursday AM, then Dangerous cold for Christmas Weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - We have even more cold rain moving in tonight and lasting into Thursday morning. Then we have temps plummet Friday with dangerous wind chills and multiple First Alert Weather Days.

  • More rain showers and some downpours tonight with lows in the upper 30s, the chance of rain is 90%.
  • 70% chance of rain Thursday morning, then cloudy with the upper 40s by the afternoon.
  • FIRST ALERT Weather Days for Friday through Monday morning for cold temps and dangerous wind chills.
  • Low temps will be near 13 Saturday morning, it will feel like -5 to 10 with wind chills.
  • Winds could gust up to 40 to 45mph Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.

FIRST ALERT SUMMARY

We have a coastal low that will bring rain showers this evening and overnight. 90% chance of rain with an additional 0.5-1″ possible. Temps will be cold with lows down into the upper 30s. So another wet cold and raw night.

We see lingering showers in the morning Thursday, and the chance of rain is around 70%. Then there are cloudy skies with highs in the upper 40s. A surge of warm air is coming from the south. That’s why our temps warm up a little but are still WAY below average.

FIRST ALERT Weather Day for Friday. A very strong cold front arrives Friday and will bring a major cool down for the day. Winds will be very high as well with gusts up to 40-45mph during the afternoon and evening. Temps start off in the 40s in the morning and then cool down into the mid to low 30s by the afternoon. So dress warmly when you leave the house!

With such strong winds and cold temperatures Saturday morning dipping down to 13, it will feel like -5 to 10! Frostbite is a possibility so make sure you dress in layers and cover your skin. Avoid prolonged exposure to the cold air and wind if at all possible. Please bring in your pets and check on loved ones and neighbors.

Highs Saturday only get into the low 30s and because of that, we have a FIRST ALERT Weather Day. We have sunny skies throughout the day and the winds will die down by the afternoon.

FIRST ALERT Weather day for Sunday as well as lows are in the upper teens and highs reach the upper 30s for your Christmas afternoon. At least it’s sunny. Is that good enough? Ha!

We went ahead and issued a FIRST ALERT Weather Day for Monday morning’s lows in the teens. But guess what? It warms back into the low 40s by the afternoon!

Tonight: 90% chance of showers and temps are in the upper 30s.

Thursday: Another round of scattered showers, mainly in the morning (70% chance), with cloudy skies. Highs struggle to get near 50.

FIRST ALERT Friday: Cloudier in the morning, with sunshine breaking out. Temps fall into the day with dangerous night winds and chills in the 10s or just below zero.

FIRST ALERT Saturday: Mostly sunny, very cold & breezy. Highs in the low-30s with potential wind chills in the 20s. Morning lows are near 13.

FIRST ALERT Christmas: Morning lows are in the upper teens, with highs into the upper 30s. Wind chills will still level out in the 20s with a good deal of sun.

FIRST ALERT Monday: Morning lows are in the upper teens. Mainly sunny skies with highs into the 40s.

Tuesday: Morning lows are in the mid-20s and highs reach the upper 40s.
