ReCreation Athletics opens new sports facility, partners with law enforcement to reduce gang violence

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - ReCreation Athletics is opening a new facility in Richland County.

The organization it is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11 a.m. at 140 Diamond Lane in Columbia. The ReCreation Arena is geared towards helping amateur athletes ages 5 and up and aims to help at-risk youth.

In addition, the new facility will serve as the headquarters for the Midlands Gang Task Force in partnership with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The task force works towards reducing the increased gang activity in Richland County. The building will also play a role as a hub in the county’s Disaster Relief Plan.

The facility features three indoor and two outdoor basketball courts. It has a dome with indoor turf, soccer facilities and football fields, weight training rooms and many other accommodations. The arena also has access to arcade games and a food court.
