GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WYFF) - An Upstate woman grabbed a gun from a man and shot him after he attacked her while she was holding a baby, according to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened Sunday on Lakeside Road.

Christopher Druvon Kennedy, 37, is accused of hitting and choking a woman he has a domestic relationship with, Lt. Ryan Flood said.

Flood said the woman was holding a 9-month-old baby at the time of the attack.

Flood said investigators learned that, during the assault, another man stepped in to try to help the woman and Kennedy began attacking him.

During that time the woman found a gun in a piece of Kennedy’s clothing and when Kennedy charged after her, she fired at him, according to Flood.

Flood said investigators believe the shooting was self-defense.

Kennedy was shot at least one time and taken to the hospital where he is in stable but critical condition, Flood said Monday.

Kennedy is charged with first-degree domestic violence, unlawful neglect of a child, third-degree assault and battery, and felon in possession.
