Police looking for shooter after man found shot inside his home
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Officials with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital in Columbia.
Police were called to a home in the 400 block of Freshwater Drive on Monday around 6:45 p.m. for a shooting that left one person hit.
When deputies arrived, they found a man lying on the floor just inside the front door. The man was then rushed to a local hospital for treatment. As of Tuesday morning he remained in hospital.
Investigators believe the shooting is an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the community.
Neighbors say they saw a man on the stretcher who looked to be in his early twenties. They also say they saw another man in the police car in handcuffs, but police will not confirm they have made an arrest. One neighbor says an investigator came to his door and told him they are looking for a third person involved in the incident.
According to neighbors, this shooting is related to another shooting a couple weeks ago in their neighborhood. They say this was a quiet, peaceful neighborhood, but it has become more dangerous. Neighbors also say they just stay inside with their doors locked and are worried this will bring down the value of their property.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to submit a tip to Crime Stoppers at crimesc.com.
