Coroner releases new details about Furman student found dead

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WYFF) - A 19-year-old college student was found dead in his dorm room and now the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating, according to Furman University President Elizabeth Davis.

Michael “Ryan” Wood was found dead Wednesday in his dorm room on campus, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office said.

“The cause and manner of death are still pending further investigation and autopsy results,” a coroner’s office release said.

According to Davis, Wood was a first-year student from Edgefield, South Carolina. He was a member of the Mock Trial team and Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

Davis issued a statement on Furman University’s Facebook page.

“Please take a moment to remember Ryan and all he brought to our community during his time at Furman. May all who knew him find peace and comfort during this difficult time,” Davis said.
