COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A man was killed and a woman was critically injured after a motorcycle hit a wild boar that was on a roadway in Colleton County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the collision happened on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. on Sniders Highway near Folks Road and involved a 1999 Honda VT-750 motorcycle.

The motorcycle was traveling north on the dark stretch of the rural highway when it collided with the animal, Colleton County Fire Rescue officials said.

A report states both occupants on the motorcycle were thrown into the highway, with the man landing in the southbound lane. CCFR officials reported that a car that was traveling southbound struck the man after he fell from the motorcycle.

When Fire-Rescue units arrived they found the man was dead and the woman was suffering critical traumatic injuries.

“Firefighters blocked both travel lanes to secure the scene for law enforcement,” CCFR officials said. “They treated the woman and requested a medical helicopter.”

She was flown to the trauma center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

The stretch of Sniders Highway was closed for about three hours while the coroner and Highway Patrol conducted investigations, CCFR officials said.

Trooper Tyler Tidwell said the driver was not wearing a helmet and the passenger was wearing a helmet. The coroner’s office has not released the identity of the deceased.
