‘Zero Tolerance’: More than 100 citations written for mask violations in one weekend

Officials say people should be prepared for a ticket if they aren’t wearing a mask.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - City officials were busy handing out citations this past weekend for those who were not compliant with the city’s emergency mask ordinance.

According to the Columbia Fire Department, 106 mask citations were written during the city’s “Zero Tolerance” weekend. Of those citations, 61 were written on Friday while another 45 were written on Saturday.

Most of the citations, according to the fire department, were issued in Five Points.

Anyone in violation of the emergency mask ordinance will be fined $100.

The ordinance is currently set to expire on February 13 but has previously been extended numerous times.
