COLUMBIA, S.C. (TheBigSpur.com) - The South Carolina football program is down an assistant coach. Again. According to published reports, including one from FootballScoop, former running backs coach Des Kitchings is leaving the program to take the same position with the Atlanta Falcons.

This is the second time in two years that the running backs coach of the Gamecocks has left after one season to take a job in the National Football League. Thomas Brown left South Carolina after one season last year to take a job with the Los Angeles Rams.

Kitchings is also the fourth assistant coach this offseason to agree to a new contract with the Gamecocks – and he actually agreed to two different modifications to his contract – but still leave the program. Former offensive coaches Mike Bobo and Will Friend along with defensive line coach Tracy Rocker all left the Gamecocks for Auburn.

Even though Kitchings is leaving the program, the Gamecocks are much better in the running back room with All-SEC tailback Kevin Harris leading the way along with former five-star running back MarShawn Lloyd back in the room as well.

South Carolina also has scholarship running backs Rashad Amos and ZaQuandre White returning from last season, along with incoming freshman Caleb McDowell.

Kitchings, who played his college football at Furman, came to South Carolina after spending eight seasons at North Carolina State.
