ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) -The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about unsolicited letters asking for security information.

The agency says that letters are being put in mailboxes without an envelope and that the letter is seeking to obtain what type of security system exists on your property in the event that you are not home.

OCSO says that it is unclear how the person or persons responsible would retrieve the letter because it uses the correct addresses and phone number for the agency.

“We’re just taking every precaution in the event someone fills this form out,” Sheriff Ravenell said. “These perpetrators could stop back by to check the mailboxes they have targeted.”

If anyone has received this letter, they are asked to call the OCSO at 803-534-3550 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
