COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A 45-year-old man who owns two convenience stores in Richland County has been arrested and charged with three counts of tax evasion.

According to the South Carolina Department of Revenue, Amitkmar Vinubhai Gohel reported $293,149 in sales for 2017 through 2019 for his two stores. However, his actual sales were $929,573. Officials with SCDOR said Gohel failed to report more than $600,000 in sales. By not reporting the sales, Gohel evaded more than $50,000 in South Carolina sales taxes, according to the arrest warrants.

Gohel faces up to five years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000 for each count if he is convicted. He is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
