HOPKINS, S.C. (WIS) - Deputies say a teenager was shot to death in Richland County on Thursday.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of Horrell Hill Road, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said. That’s near Lower Richland Boulevard just outside of Hopkins, in the southern part of the county.

Deputies said the teen boy was shot in the upper body. Crews rushed him to the hospital, but he did not survive.

A family member of the teen reached out to WIS on Friday morning saying it was her step-grandson, 16-year-old Ryan Knight, who was killed.

“We are devastated,” Tina Blackwell said. “It is so sad. We loved him so much!”

The Richland County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim who died was Ryan Knight.
