SC house where body was discovered in freezer now burned to the ground
The fire happened just days after the person’s body was found.
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation after a body was found in a deep freezer at an abandoned home in Norway.
Officials spoke to eight witnesses who went to the home located on Woodview Circle on Sunday. According to the sheriff’s office, the eight people went to the home after hearing it was haunted.
One of the witnesses told deputies he saw the freezer on the back porch of the home and opened it. When he opened it, he saw what he thought was a body wearing blue jeans and socks.
Deputies found a “badly decomposed human body inside of the freezer,” according to the incident report. The area was later taped off.
The coroner’s office said it is working with forensic experts to identify the body and the person’s cause of death. It is not known at this time if the body was a man or a woman, officials said.
“This process will take some time as we methodically investigate this case to ensure proper closure and positive results,” the coroner’s office said.
Tuesday, WIS got a tip the home where the body was discovered had burned to the ground. When crews got on scene Tuesday afternoon, they found a smoldering heap of rubble.
Officials have not shared information about the fire, when it started or what caused it.
