COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Dec. 31, 2020 was the last day on the job for James Jones, better known to the residents of Forest Acres as “Jay.”
Jones has worked for the United States Postal Service for 48 years, 41 of which he spent serving Forest Acres.
WIS caught up to him on his last route ever to see the love and connection he has with his customers.
Earlier in the week, neighbors gathered to have a celebration of Jay’s career, and to thank him for his years of service.
“He’s so wonderful, he always asks about your family, your neighbors, ‘I haven’t seen this neighor in a while. Are they doing okay?’” Elizabeth Cotter said. “He’s just so sweet.”
Jones was overcome by the community’s support.
“The balloons, signs, cards, gifts... I mean - I don’t really have words to describe how it made me feel, but it’s a good feeling, and something I won’t forget,” he said.
Jones said says he looks forward to spending his first week of retirement relaxing. He said he’s excited to be able to spend a lot more time with his family and assist his elderly mother.
