ARLINGTON, Tx. (WBRC) - The Alabama Crimson Tide has done it again. A stellar offensive performance to secure the Tide’s spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship for the fifth time in six seasons.
The Tide overwhelmed Notre Dame in the first round of the CFB playoffs with a 31-14 win.
Alabama is known for creating powerful momentum that more often than not, starts with their first possession of the game. Tonight was no different when Bama quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist Mac Jones found his arsenal of skill players to cover 79 yards in under 3 minutes for the first touchdown of the night.
Alabama’s offensive diversity remained consistent throughout the game. Mac Jones finished with a 25-30 completion rate, 297 total yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Tide’s second Heisman finalist Devonte Jones, with his agile ability to control the route with razor thin precision, finished with 130 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Najee Harris wowed the crowd in the first quarter when on 1st and 10 he bounced off the pile, found space to the right and went airborne, hurdling right over the sole defender in this path. An incredible feat to watch, Najee finished with a 53 yard run and the Tide scored on the next play. Harris finished the night with 125 yards.
Alabama maintained a 24 point lead until deep into the 4th quarter, when Notre Dame found the end zone, bringing the final score to 31-14.
Alabama will appear in the National Championship Monday January 11 at 7p.m. CST
