COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A fire at a Richland Two elementary school has students going home early Monday.

Jackson Creek Elementary will dismiss students at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 7.

District officials said there was a fire in a community restroom on the second floor of the school.

Everyone evacuated the building and no one was hurt in the fire, officials said.

Students and staff could go back inside, but there was too smoke on the second floor to use the area for the rest of the day.

Officials said having everyone on the first floor made social distancing impossible, so they decided to dismiss school early at 11:30 a.m.

There will also be no after-school care Monday.

Officials have not said what caused the fire.
