Irmo community steps up after ‘Grinch’ leaves community library bare
IRMO, S.C. (WIS) - Over at Fusco’s Market in Irmo, they’re already in the holiday spirit. But apparently, so is a Grinch who’s a bit of a bookworm.
“We came in last Tuesday, and there were no books here,” said Katie, who works at Fusco’s. The Grinch came and took them.”
Now the shelves of the free community library outside of the restaurant are bare.
“It was just like another thing to add to 2020,” said Sadie, who also works at the business.
With every single one of the books gone, the team took to social media to ask if anyone would like to help get their little library back up and running.
“We tried to have a positive attitude about it,” Sadie said. “In the Facebook post, we said, ‘hopefully it was someone that needed it more than we did.’”
But where there’s a Grinch, there’s a Who-ville, and the folks in Irmo made sure to show what their community is all about.
“Not even the next day, this was already all the way full, and now we have books inside overflowing ready to be stocked up again,” Katie said. "
The Fusco’s team says their customers have already been supporting them throughout a tough year, and this is just another reminder that 2020′s chapter on kindness isn’t quite closed yet.
“It’s been great to see our community come together,” Sadie said. “Even if it’s something so simple and small, it’s just really a great way to show that there’s still joy and kindness and happiness.”
