COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Just in time for Thanksgiving, BI-LO has donated hundreds of turkeys and other holiday-meal staples to help families in need in the Midlands.
Serve and Connect, a local non-profit, is working with local law enforcement to deliver the 600 turkeys and produce bags in Lexington and Columbia before the holiday.
In years past, Serve and Connect has hosted community dinners to hand out the donations. Because of COVID-19, the meals will be delivered this year by law enforcement.
The non-profit worked with neighborhood associations to find families in need.
Southeastern Grocers, Inc., the parent company and home of BI-LO, donated a total of 8,075 frozen turkeys to communities throughout the southeast.
“At Southeastern Grocers, we are committed to the unwavering fight against hunger as the wake of the pandemic continues to impact our communities. This Thanksgiving, we are proud to provide more than 150,000 vital meals to our community members in need. This year, more than ever, we are extremely grateful for each and every frontline associate and neighbor that has weathered this unprecedented time with us. We wish everyone a memorable Thanksgiving Day full of celebration with loved ones around their family tables,” EVP and Chief People Officer of Southeastern Grocers Elizabeth Thompson said.
BI-LO will also have Thanksgiving deals on turkeys, hams, and other holiday meal essentials.
Serve and Connect will also be able to provide food to families in Kershaw, Fairfield and Orangeburg counties thanks to a donation from the Central Carolina Community Foundation.
