FIRST QUARTER

South Carolina’s offense looked pretty good in the first drive of the year. Collin Hill got the ball down the field, but Kevin Harris made his mark scoring the first touchdown of the year on a 3-yard run.

As for the defense, they seemed locked in early on. However, Tennessee made a few good plays in their second drive to tie things up.

Things were evenly matched after the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

The Tennessee defense got involved early. After Shi Smith wasn’t able to come away with a catch, Henry To’o To’o returns the interception to give the Vols their first lead.

Smith was typically known as a guy who didn’t drop passes a year ago. That particular pass is definitely one he’d like to have back.

Neither offense looked great in the second quarter. Both teams combined for 32 yards with Carolina recording 24 of those. In the half, Carolina had 93 yards in 38 plays.

THIRD QUARTER

Both offenses seem to be awake and ready to go now. After a sluggish second quarter, both teams traded scores early in the third.

Shi Smith comes has been a prime target for Collin Hill. Through three quarters, he’s got over 100 receiving yards.

Carolina’s offense ultimately gets into rhythm and scores to tie it up. They put up 155 yards in the quarter alone. That was 30 yards better than their output in the first half.

Carolina had 280 yards through three quarters.

FOURTH QUARTER

Carolina came away with two field goals in the quarter, but the offense missed key opportunities that could have helped them put a few more points on the board.

The Gamecocks have owned the time of possession in the quarter, but they haven’t capitalized on that by putting additional points on the board.

In the end, it was a special teams miscue that sealed the win for Tennessee.
