Sinkhole caused by weather forces officials to close part of highway in Sumter

SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - Authorities in Sumter have closed a road after a sinkhole formed Thursday.

Officials said U.S. Highway 15 North under the U.S. 76/378 bypass is now down to two lanes between North Pike and South Pike.

Police said the sinkhole was caused by weather in the area.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is on the scene to assess the damage.
