LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - A woman died after a tree fell on her car as she drove on Interstate 20 in Lexington County on Thursday morning.

It happened around 11:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the interstate, though an exact location was not shared.

The coroner said Pamela Adams Powell, 49, was driving slowly due to traffic when a tree fell on her car.

Crews rushed her to the hospital, but she died a short time later.

Powell was from Columbia.

Around 11:45 a.m. Thursday, a fierce line of thunderstorms swept through the area. The coroner did not confirm that contributed to the accident, but the area experienced heavy rain and gusty winds for several minutes.
