COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The state’s top college football prospect has decided to keep his talents at home.
Hammond defensive lineman Jordan Burch announced Wednesday he will sign his National Letter of Intent to play for South Carolina. Burch was heavily recruited by the Gamecocks along with Clemson, Georgia, LSU, and other Power 5 programs in the country.
“Every visit I took, it felt like a home visit,” Burch said during his nationally-televised announcement on ESPNU when asked why he picked the Gamecocks. “All of the coaching staff, all of the people there, it’s in town. I don’t think I could have made a better decision.”
Burch helped the Skyhawks (12-2) capture the SCISA Class 3-A state title this year.
While Burch is most known for this ability to wreak havoc in the backfield as a defensive lineman, he has also spent time playing running back for Hammond as well.
Burch, who is listed as a five-star recruit on several recruiting websites, is ranked among the top 10 recruits in the country by Rivals.com and by 247sports.com. He will play in the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 2.
