Columbia cab driver killed in shooting identified, next of kin sought

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A man working as a cab driver who was shot and killed in north Columbia on Sunday night has been identified. The coroner asks for the public’s help in finding the victim’s next of kin.

The shooting, according to officials, happened just before 10 p.m. in the 4300 block of Brookridge Drive.

Paul Swatsell, 53, has been identified as the victim by the Richland County coroner. Officials said he for the Checker Yellow Cab Company and was working at the time of the shooting.

Crews rushed Swatsell to the hospital, but he died less than an hour after the shooting.

The coroner is still trying to get in touch with Swatsell’s relatives. Anyone who knows him or his family should call the coroner’s office at 803-576-1799.
