SPARTANBURG, SC (WIS) - The family of Columbia native Evan Gaines went to his graduation this week but did not get the chance to celebrate his achievement with him.
The 22-year-old college student who was set to graduate this year was shot and killed outside of his off-campus apartment on March 26.
In April, USC Upstate spokesperson Jessica Blais said Gaines, who was a student in the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics will be awarded his degree posthumously.
His mother and other family members were there to receive his degree.
In addition to Gaines, another student, Jordane Bouchillon, who passed away in the fall following a car accident. Jordane was studying in our College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science.
There have been no arrests made in his death. If you have any information about his case, you’re asked to call the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
