ELGIN, SC (WIS) - One person is dead after their body was recovered from a crashed vehicle out of an Elgin pond, the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies received a 911 call at 11:30 am that a body was floating in a small pond in the Elgin area.

When EMS and Kershaw County Sheriff's Office got on the scene they noticed something that looked like a car under the water.

The car appears to have been in there since April 29th, according to officials.

The deceased has been identified as Randy McGee, 33. McGee had gotten out of the car through the driver’s window and tried to swim away.

An autopsy for McGee has been scheduled for Wednesday morning.

"Thank you to Camden FD Dive Rescue Team, Lugoff FD Dive Rescue Team, and DNR Dive Rescue Team," Sheriff Lee Boan said in a release. "Please keep the victim’s family in your thoughts and prayers."

South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Kershaw County Sheriffs and Coroner’s Office is investigating the incident.
