Biden stops by SC church Sunday during weekend campaign visit

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden continued his visit to the Palmetto State on Sunday.

Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, attended Sunday morning worship at Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia. Biden greeted churchgoers and sang some worship songs.

The 74-year-old longtime politician visited the church one day after an event at the Hyatt Park Community Center on Saturday where he was welcomed by a community of supporters.

Current polls show Joe Biden leading other Democratic candidates in the race to the White House.

The latest national polling data from CNN shows Biden leading with 39 percent of Democratic voters - that's 24 points ahead of Senator Bernie Sanders at 15 percent. Senator Elizabeth Warren trails with 8 percent, Pete Buttigieg is at 7 percent and Beto O'Rourke at 6 percent.

In South Carolina - Biden leads with 32 percent of voters, and Sanders sits at 14 percent.

Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and Stacey Abrams - who is not officially running - trail behind them.

In response to Biden’s visit, the South Carolina Republican Party issued the following statement:

When South Carolina voters ask themselves whether they’re better off now than they were four years ago, the answer will be a resounding ‘yes’, thanks to President Trump and Republican leadership. South Carolinians have no interest in going back to the days of skyrocketing healthcare premiums, crushing taxes, and high unemployment rates - the only results achieved by the Obama-Biden Administration.
