COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A portion of Fairfield Road has been reopened after a fire at a salvage yard.
Columbia Fire tweeted around 4 p.m. that crews were fighting a fire in a metal recycling lot in the 7700 block of Fairfield Road.
This is the second time the lot had caught on fire in the last year. The first fire occurred in May 2018.
According to Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins, crews used foam to fight the flames and hotbeds. Jenkins also said 19 fire trucks were on the scene at the time.
Eight homes nearby were evacuated as a precaution. They have since returned.
Details from authorities are limited at this time. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
