JASPER COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - A 34-year-old inmate is accused of beating, raping and threatening to kill a woman who was in a bathroom in a detention center commissary area, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.
SLED special agent Chris Barfield said the woman was in the bathroom in the commissary area of Ridgeland Correctional Institute in Jasper County on March 6 when Ahmad Rashad Bonds came into the restroom.
The woman said after Bonds told her if she did what he said he would not hurt her, he stripped off her pants and underwear. She said he punched her in the head and choked her while he raped her.
The woman said after the sexual assault, Bonds dragged her to the back of the commissary, struck her in the head with a telephone and bound her feet together with a long piece of cloth. She said Bond told her he was going to have to kill her since she had seen his face.
SLED agents did not say what caused the attack to end, but they said the woman was later able to identify Bonds from a photographic lineup.
Bonds is serving a 25-year sentence for armed robbery, first-degree burglary and first-degree criminal sexual conduct committed in Beaufort.
During his incarceration, he has lost privileges several times for possession of a cellphone and twice for public masturbation.
Bonds has been imprisoned since 2003 and is not eligible for parole.
