2 charged in connection to SC Walmart arson investigation that caused $3M in damages

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The Columbia Police Department says two men have been arrested in connection to an arson investigation at a Columbia Walmart earlier this week.

Police say Steven D. Edwards and Bobby J. Murphy, Jr. have been charged with second-degree arson in the fire at the Harbison Boulevard Walmart on April 16. The two men are currently being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.

Investigators said the fire started in one of the aisle after 3 a.m. Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins said at the time that the fire caused nearly $3 million in damages inside the store. No one was injured.

Police were originally looking for a woman in connection with this case, but said that they talked to her and she has not been charged at this time.

The store was closed for a few days before re-opening on April 19.
