COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - During a press conference on Tuesday, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced the proposal of a statewide veterans affairs cabinet agency.
Gov. McMaster said the establishment of this position speaks to the state’s long-standing military history and is a long-time coming.
“We know how important it is," Gov. McMaster said. "It’s important for a lot of reasons. It’s important to the Pentagon. It’s important to the Department Of Defense, it’s important that our veterans through a cabinet agency have the status, attention and focus that is important to keep South Carolina strong.”
Right now, there are more than 400,000 veterans in South Carolina.
