ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - An Orangeburg man who was in court at the beginning of January for sexual assault and kidnapping charges is now facing a murder charge.

“This individual was just taken into custody less than two weeks ago on several felony charges, including criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping,” the sheriff said. “And now he’s out and charged with this homicide.”

Corbitt's first scheduled court appearance will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at 2:30 p.m.

Investigators with the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Springfield-area where concerned citizens made calls reporting gunshots in the area.

Police arrived on Samaria Road and found a vehicle with an occupant who was unresponsive.

Orangeburg County Sheriff’s investigators arrived to find a male slumped over in the seat with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

OCSO investigators found information that Corbitt had been seen with the victim only moments before hearing gunfire.

He was later taken into custody.

Corbitt’s bond for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, first-degree assault and battery, and carjacking charges in connection with a September 23, 2018 assault was set at $16,000 on January 3.
