COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - South Carolina heads into the New Year with some good news.

The Gamecocks (8-4) moved up two spots in this week’s AP Top 25. Dawn Staley’s squad is now No. 23 in the ranking. On Sunday, USC picked up their fourth straight win with a 66-53 victory over Furman.

Now, the Gamecocks will gear up for conference play as they prepare to face Texas A&M on the road Thursday night. Three days later, the Gamecocks return to Colonial Life Arena for their SEC home opener against Alabama.

UConn, Notre, Dame, Louisville, Maryland, and Oregon make up the poll’s top five teams. The Huskies, the Cardinals, and the Terrapins are all unbeaten at this point.
