COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - In less than two weeks, the South Carolina child support payment system will end and a new one will be implemented.
The prepaid debit card program used to make child support payments will end on Dec. 31. It is being replaced by the Palmetto Automated Child Support system, which will start Feb. 4.
In the new system, people paying child support will have more payment options, including credit. For those getting payments, the clerk of court will no longer be issuing those to you.
Instead, the new state disbursement unit will issue payments going forward.
Clerk of Court Lisa Comer urges any residents who currently utilize the prepaid debit cards to receive child support payments in Lexington County to contact the Clerk of Court’s office at (803) 785-8393. Residents impacted by the change should have received additional information in the mail regarding the program and timeline of changes from the South Carolina Department of Social Services.
