SANDY ISLAND, SC (WMBF) - An infant nearly killed a boating accident in which three other people died last month was upgraded to fair condition on Tuesday.
Officials at the Medical University of South Carolina say one-year-old Zyair Smalls made the upgrade from serious condition over the weekend.
Smalls was taken to the hospital after the boat he and five other people were riding in capsized in the Waccamaw River, just yards from shore. Officials say someone pulled Smalls from the water after the accident occurred.
Smalls' mother, 19-year-old Shaquatia Robinson, died in the accident along with 17-year-old Rishard Pyatt and 47-year-old Luann Robinson. Officials say all three drowned.
Two other people aboard the boat survived the accident.
