LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - Deputies want your help finding a man accused of preying on a young girl.
Deputies say 25-year-old Mark Rawls, Jr. is a sexual predator running loose in Lexington County.
Authorities say last month Rawls had sex with a 13-year-old girl in Pelion, and they haven't been able to find him since.
"He had gained the trust of the family, the trust of the girl," said Lexington County Sheriff James Metts.
A trusted family friend, deputies say Mark Rawls took advantage of a Pelion family who let him stay in their home on December 13.
Deputies say after the family went to sleep, Rawls woke up their 13-year-old daughter.
"He approached her and talked her into going to the trailer adjacent to the home and they had sex for several hours," says Metts. "A week or so later, she came forward and told her mother about the incident."
Authorities say the family and deputies haven't been able to find Rawls since that night. Meanwhile, the girl has been suffering emotionally.
"She has been through mental health and she is seeking counseling now. And she's having a very difficult time with the situation," says Metts.
Metts feels the arrest of Rawls would help ease the family's pain, and take a dangerous predator off the streets.
"He's a risk to the community at large because he would do it again," says Metts.
Metts believes Rawls is still in the Pelion area, and friends may be hiding him. He's 6'1" and 155 pounds. If you see him, call 1-888-CRIME-SC.
