Perspective: A WIS Editorial on the new WMBF News by General Manager Donita Todd

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - At WIS, we're getting ready to welcome a new friend and say goodbye to some long-time viewers. On Friday, a new sister television station will sign on in the Myrtle Beach-Florence area, and WIS will no longer be seen by most viewers in that part of the state.

The station is called WMBF News.  It's also an NBC affiliate, and it's owned by the same company as WIS -- Raycom Media.  To tell you more about WMBF News, here's a message from General Manager Ted Fortenberry:

WMBF News is the Grand Strand and Pee Dee's first NBC station they can call their own.  And we're excited about what we'll be offering our viewers -- five hours each weekday of live, local, late breaking news and weather. All your favorite NBC shows, plus a lot of other programming we think you'll like, including the first daily version of Deal or No Deal!  Look for our first newscast Friday at 5pm on cable and satellite and over the air on digital channel 32.

As WMBF News debuts in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee, it will replace WIS on cable and satellite there.  We will miss our many loyal viewers, but we do want people in Florence and Darlington Counties to know that many of you can still watch WIS over the air for free, with a good TV antenna, on channel 10 just as you have for more than 50 years.  That's my Perspective, what's yours?
