COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Officials say Barry Martin, Jr., the inmate who escaped from the Manning Correctional Facility on June 30, has been captured.

Authorities say Martin was driving a truck he stole from Rock Hill.

Officials say Greenville County deputies saw the truck and began to chase Martin who ended up wrecking the vehicle. Martin slammed the truck into a telephone pole and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital to treat his injuries.

Martin escaped from the facility around 3pm on Monday, June 30.

Officials say they discovered Martin was gone when they did one of nine daily inmate counts.

Officials don't know how Martin made it out of the prison, and they also do not know if he acted alone.

Investigators say Martin started serving a 10-year sentence in January for breaking into a motor vehicle.

As a result of his escape, Martin's 10-year sentence could have an additional 1-15 years attached to it.
