ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - Police say our latest Midlands' Most Wanted suspect beat up his girlfriend, then stole her car.
Authorities tell us 27-year-old Alvin Darell Smith of Orangeburg forced his way into his girlfriend's apartment, beat her up, and held a plastic bag over her head.
His ex-girlfriend says she's still shaken from the incident and didn't want to appear on camera, but she said she hopes you might be able to help catch Smith, before he strikes again.
"The attack was very vicious, he seems to be angry," says Capt. Mike Adams of Orangeburg DPS.
Police say Alvin Darell Smith seemed to be in a fit of rage, when he arrived at his ex-girlfriend's apartment in Orangeburg, in the early morning hours of may 24th.
"The attack was pretty swift, pretty sudden and I would say severe," says Capt. Adams.
The victim says Smith forced his way inside and grabbed her by the throat. She said she fell to the ground and Smith kicked her repeatedly.
She said she was able to run to her bedroom, but Smith followed after her. Then she said Smith punched her in the face, grabbed a plastic bag from the cleaners', pulled it over her head, and tired to strangle her.
"She's a very courageous young lady, she fought back, she managed to break free from the attack," says Adams.
Police say as she ran out of the apartment to get help, Smith grabbed her purse and drove off in her car.
The car was found in Georgia a week later. Police believe Smith is now back in the Orangeburg area.
"Mr. Smith has been on the run, he knows we're after him," says Adams. "We consider him to be a danger to the community."
Smith stands 6'3" and weighs about 210 pounds. If you see him, police urge you to call 1-888-CRIME-SC.
