Apartment complex offers "clothing optional" pool

HILLSBOROUGH, FL (NBC) - Residents at a Florida apartment complex are trying to uncover the details of behind the shocking changes at one of their pools.

The Arbors at Branch Creek apartments in Hillsborough County will soon have a clothing optional pool.

New plans for the soon-to-be completed condo complex recently posted online show models lounging around a pool, and say residents are welcome to shed more than their inhibitions.

Several apartment residents say managers have revealed nothing to them about turning there homes into a clothing-optional condo complex.

"No that's not appropriate for the family lifestyle that lives here," said resident Leslie Hill.

Clothing optional resorts are nothing new in Florida, where communities including Paradise Lakes and the newer upscale Caliente Resort are thriving.

Caliente is not affiliated in any way with the plans for the clothing optional condos, but Caliente spokesperson Angye Fox says the clothing-optional lifestyle is nothing to be afraid of.

"The empowerment is in naturism is a very natural part of being a human," she said.

While the real estate market in Florida suffers, Caliente is doing well.

"Well, what's interesting about what's happening with real estate as it relates to clothing optional resorts is there is a greater demand than there is supply for property," Fox said.

That may be why The Arbors has plans to offer a clothing optional pool.

Managers say residents won't be able to walk around the property naked, only at the pool, but that's more than some are willing to accept.
