More 218th soldiers come home

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - More of the South Carolina's 218th will be coming back to the United States on Friday.

Their first stop will be Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina.

That's where about 200 soldiers with the National Guard Brigade arrived Thursday morning.

The soldiers were met with a heroes welcome from people who made the trip from South Carolina.

All of the soldiers say its good to be back but they have not forgotten the people who are still waiting to come home.

"It's good to be home. God bless us. Everybody. We had some guys go down. All and all, it was a good deployment. We did a great job and we are back," said Sgt. Skimmer of Columbia.

From Pope Air Base the troops were taken to Fort Bragg.

That's where they will start the demobilization process.

Then, these soldiers are expected to be back in South Carolina next Thursday.

There's a lot happening in the next few days with the 218th.

Another wave of soldiers will fly into Pope Air Force Base on Friday.

Then, two more waves are expected to fly in this weekend.

Also Friday, another homecoming celebration is scheduled in West Columbia at 5pm.
