Truck driver killed in I-26 wreck, explosion

RIDGEVILLE, SC (WIS) - Flames, closed lanes, and death along Interstate 26 Friday as a tractor trailer crash causes major problems.

The crash happened around 11:00am on I-26 west -- the highway heading out of Charleston into Columbia.

Troopers say a tractor trailer ran off the road and crashed between the exits for Jedburg and Ridgeville.

Witnesses say the tractor trailer blew a tire, ran off the road, hit a group of trees and exploded.

The driver of the truck was killed. His name is not being released until his family is notified.

The crash shut down one lane of traffic on I-26 west until early afternoon.
