COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Help is on the way for South Carolina's elderly.
The University of South Carolina has announced that it's teaming up with a German research institute to think up new inventions to make life easier for senior citizens.
Some of those innovations would include carpets that can tell when someone has fallen, wrist watches that monitor your heart raid and hearing aids that can tell the difference between a doorbell and telephone.
But officials say one of the biggest benefits will be peace of mind. USC president Dr. Andrew Sorensen says, "It will also make it easier for adult children to monitor the health and well-being of elderly parents whether they live around the corner or around the world."
Researchers say such items could be tested within the year.
