Group donates equipment to Columbia fire stations

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WIS) - Back in October, six University of South Carolina students and one Clemson student died in a house fire in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.

Monday afternoon the non-profit "Fire House Subs Public Safety Foundation" donated a thermal imaging camera and a jaws of life to Columbia fire stations numbers two and nine. The potentially life-saving tools were given in honor of the seven young people who died in the fire.

Relatives of the victims were there to see their loved ones remembered. Karen Mann says, "I just hope that maybe at some point in the future, I don't know, I'd be able to meet someone whose, whose child was saved as a result of this. You know, to be able to tell them how people like the chief here and, you know, people who donated have changed their lives."

Plaques with each young's person name were also placed in the fire stations.
