Scammers asking for money for fallen trooper's family

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - If you get a call from someone claiming to be with the highway patrol collecting money for Lance Corporal James Haynes' family, don't be fooled.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says they are not calling anyone to ask for donations.

Trooper Haynes was killed while responding to a call on Highway 33 in Orangeburg County earlier this month.

The highway patrol says if you want to be sure your money is going to get to the Haynes family, donate to one of their recognized organizations like the Trooper's Coalition and the Trooper's Association.

For more information on how to donate to those associations, go to http://www.ntctroopers.com/ and http://www.sctroopers.org/.
