Statement from Joel and Gaye Sprague

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The parents of Benjamin Sprague released the following statement:

The Solicitor has addressed the legal issues surrounding December 9, 2007, when our son, Ben, passed away. We respect the Solicitor's responsibility and professionalism. Our hearts go out to all families that are living with the aftermath of this tragic event.

Ben was smart, fun and loving. We were, are, and always will be proud of him. His spreading of joy should be an inspiration to us all. While we acknowledge Ben's errors in judgment, we do not believe his errors overshadow his goodness.

Now, we must turn to constructive pursuits. We hope that, collectively, we can find a way to engage the energy and resourcefulness of young people and families, along with the power of institutions and the media, to bring a greater good from our family's loss.

We will never be able to repay the kindness, the support, and the thoughts and prayers that have been given us over the last few weeks. We can only try to live the rest of our lives following Ben's example of bringing joy to others.
