Richland Two student diagnosed with deadly staph infection

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A district spokeswoman has confirmed a Richland District Two student has been diagnosed with the deadly MRSA staph infection.

Theresa Riley told WIS News 10 a seventh-grade student from Summit Parkway Middle School was diagnosed with the drug-resistant infection.

Sunday night a phone message was sent to parents of children at the school advising them of the situation.

The student is said to be in good condition, and Riley did not know if the student was back at school on Monday.

A school nurse noticed a lesion on the student last week and advised the parents to have it checked out by a private physician. Test results confirmed the infection on Saturday.
