  • SH,
Faith, family, friends, and memories. That is what will help you get through the days. The overwhelming feeling of helplessness will subside. I am a friend of one of the survivor's families; a mother who lost a 22 year old son, who also has a daughter who just graduated from USC Law; and lost my home to fire last year; I have felt your pain. It will get better. May God be with you. SH Lancaster

There are no words to express the pain that so many people are going thru right now. It is amazing how many people are affected by this tragedy in one way or another. USC is a large campus with a close nit feeling. Having graduated from there almost 15 years ago I feel as if I lost my brothers and sisters. Please know that the prayers of myself and so many others are with you. God bless those who perished and survived. I hope the survivors receive peace and comfort. They have a long road ahead. "Forever to Thee".

I wrote this poem for my late dad and grandparents and want to share it with the family and friends of the young men and women who lost their lives and hope it brings some comfort to their family and friends...... A Life Complete Standing here tears in my eyes, streaming down my cheeks, falling to the ground at my feet. They are falling not for I feel defeat, but for now I know your life is complete. Today you are in heaven and it is were we shall meet again, know my love for you shall never end, it is the thought of you that will bring a smile to my face at the day's end. The sorrow I feel is not for a life lived in vain, but one that touched the lives of many, and shall go on living in the hearts of your family and friends. I stand here today saying good bye for now, tears in my eyes, streaming down my cheeks, falling to the ground at my feet for now you are in heaven a life complete. To those who have lost a loved one, know that you have a special angel watching over you and may you always have their angel arms around you and be blessed each and every day.

I am the father of two USC graduates. They are now ages thirty-one and twenty-eight. We've vacationed at Ocean Isle Beach since they were in grade school. As we saw the story unfold we were horrified and deeply saddened by the loss of life of these beautiful children. Our prayers go out to those whose lives were lost and also to those who were spared and must live with this horrible tragedy forever. I hope the survivors will be able to carry on and not feel guilt. There is a phrase I've heard that has comforted me and my wife over the years. It is very simple. . . "In the twinkling of an eye you will be in the presence of God". For whatever reason these young people were called Home. . . to a place of perfect peace and rest. Nothing any of us can ever say will take away the hurt the parents, siblings and friends are feeling today. Thank God for their memories and to all of you, family and friends, accept my family's prayers in memory of the loved ones you have lost.
  • sh, west columbia
Words (written or spoken) have NO way of adequately expressing any feelings over the loss of all these beautiful children. I send you loving silence. I believe LOVE never dies. Sending love to you and to those you lost.
  • LC, Lexington, SC
Having lost a son lately, in the prime of his life, my heart goes out to all of you. Unless you have walked in these shoes, it is impossible to comprehend. It is the most devastating thing in life to lose a child. It is something that will never, ever leave you. I will pray for all of you. I have found that the only thing that has helped me has been my faith in God and the fact that I know I will see him again one day. God Bless You All!!
  • SS, Lugoff
Nobody can take away your pain but many tears are flowing for your lose. I find comfort in Footprints and keep it close. One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But during troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." May Gods love and peace be with each of you.
  • LW, Columbia, SC
In this time of sorrow... I wish you prayers, flowing softly through your tears. I wish you remembering, gently bringing back each smile. I wish you comfort, the solace that God alone can give. I wish you love, giving you strength to carry on. I wish you dawn, lighting each tomorrow with hope.
  • CY, Columbia
I am an alumni from USC and it is such a tragedy to lose a part of our family. Such young, beautiful men and women with such promising lives to look forward to. To all of the survivors of the fire, remember that all South Carolinians are praying for you and are here to support you. God Bless and God Speed.
  • LD, Gilbert, SC
Being part of the USC family is very special. Countless times students smile, say hello, and open a door for me. Just recently I fell down some steps and 4 young USC students stopped and lifted me up. They cared enough to stop and help me and this is who our students, your children truly are. I pray that you the families of these beloved students will find comfort in believing that your children will be waiting for you with their beautiful smiles, holding open the gates to heaven, saying hello, welcome, welcome, you can rest now, the sorrow and pain is over, lifting you into God's arms to be joined with them again forever and ever. Amen.
  • RJ, Florence
My husband and I are heartbroken for you all. We lost our youngest son Jason in 1999 when he was only 19 years old. We know the pain that you feel but remember that we will see our loved ones again one day. We pray that God will be with you all and ease your pain in time and give you His peace. When our son died so young my brother told us that he had heard that when God takes people at such young ages to be with Him, it is because they have learned all that He wanted them to learn in life on this earth. And I feel that He is training them now in His way so they will be ready for their duties when we all reunite one day. I have come to know in my heart that it was just Jason's time to go. God needed him as he was right at that time in his life. And so I feel the same for your sons and daughters too. And know that they are feeling God's love right now that is so much greater than any human form of love can be. May God be with you all and fill you with His peace and love.
  • LB, Orangeburg
I just want the parents of all these children that time will help. I lost my only child this summer in a pedestrian/car accident. It seems like the end of the world but with the love and support of family and friends you will make it thru this horrific tragedy. And wheatever you do if your family or friends think you need medical help please take it. That is probably one way I have survived.

  • TE, Ridgeway, SC
I am a Carolina grad - though none of that matters at this time in our state. What matters is there are families and friends hurting over the loss of seven wonderful young people. There are six survivors that could do nothing to help their friends and siblings. I am not a parent so I cannot even begin to imagine how it would feel to lose a child, but I do know how feels to lose someone you love more than anyone could imagine. I know that if you trust and believe in God He will take care of you. God is the only person that can get you through this terrible time. It's understandable if you question why, why my child? why my brother? why my friend? why us? But know that God is the only one that has the answers and can begin to repair your broken hearts. I am praying daily that God will wrap His loving arms around each family member and provide you direction and comfort. Cling to your faith and God and know that your children are safe with Him and watching over you each and every day. Much love to each of you and God bless.

As a parent of three children, I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to loose one of my children, I have been told that it is the worst thing in the world. My heart goes out to each parent and family member of those young people who died. The way they lived their life, by furthering their education, trying to make a difference in the world is a tribute to their parents in the way they were brought up. I ask that God enclose each of you in his arms and keep you there through the coming days. Our prayers and thoughts are with each of you.

Blessings, I want you to know that you have my deepest sympathy concerning your loss. I know that your child, daughter, brother, sister, whatever they are to you will be truely missed. Though I can not say that I know how you feel, I can definitely relate to the same. You see, I lossed my daughter, my only child while she was attending college seven years ago. Although the circumstances were not the same, the loss is very similar. Please know that you are not alone, stand strong and trust in God to stand with you. He does not make mistakes. And He only takes the best.

What can a person say to a mother, a father, a sibling, a best friend, a girlfriend, a boyfriend, or grandparents that are hurting so bad from the loss of their loved one(s)? I am sorry for your loss, and please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Even though, we don't understand why bad things happen, we have to trust that God will bring good from this terrible tragedy. Please, don't allow your confusion, anger, and loneliness be stronger than your faith in Jesus Christ. You know, all our trials are gifts which gives us opportunities to grow. You won't grow if you are in a beautiful flower garden, but you'll grow if you are sick, or if you are in pain, or if you experience losses; it is then, that we take the pain and learn to accept it as a gift with a specific purpose. I know what you are thinking, "how can I accept the loss of my loved one as a gift that has a specific purpose!" when it has caused me so much grief and pain. Dear Friends, it is during this time that God will pick you up and carry you through it all. Just trust in Jesus, He will see you through! May God bless you all and give you peace and comfort always.

Do not let any one tell you they are in a better place, they belong with us, their parents. Those people would not say this if it were their child. But you will somehow learn to deal with the loss, but you will NEVER fill in the hole that has been made in your heart. If you would like to talk any time , please call. You will be in our thoughts.
  • JL, Conway, SC
I am deeply saddened by the loss of these beautiful young people. Even though I did not know them personally, I feel a real connection to them and their families. My brother and a friend of his died in a car crash at the age of 24. This was over 40 years ago and it still does not seem real. Time will help heal the pain, but the lives of their family and friends will never be the same and no one should pretend that it will. Find peace in your faith and place yourselves in the hands of God, He will see you through. My deepest sympathies.

  • KM, Lexington
I took my children with me to the make-shift memorial site on the USC campus today. We took some flowers to show support for the families and friends of those who lost their lives. My children are too young to understand what happened, but it was important to me to have them there. This tragedy has touched my husband and me, not just as football fans (I am a Gamecock; he is a Tiger), but as parents. We cannot imagine any greater loss than that of a parent who has lost a child. Our children are only two and a half and one and a half, but one day they will grow up. They will go to college. They will go on trips to the beach with their friends. You never think that they might not come home. Our hearts go out to all those who lost loved ones in this terrible tragedy, especially to the parents.
  • CF, Lexington

The only formula that has ever worked in times like these is to trust in the Lord, keep your loved one always as a part of your life, and time will heal all. You will be surprised at how much strength you will receive through others. You can do it.
  • DS, Orangeburg
My heart and prayers go out to the families that lost their loved ones, and friends that are in sorrow. It is through these times that we have to draw our strength from the Lord. He is more than able to carry us through any trial or pain we are suffering. My prayers are with you. May God bring comfort during this time to all of the families and friends.
  • SC, Lugoff
There are no words to take away the pain that you are feeling right. Time will make the pain lesson but the memory of this time will be with you always. Take time to grieve in your own way and time and let family and friends help you. I believe that each child is with God and that you will be with them again. Forgive yourselves, you could not have stopped this. Remember, it was your child's choice to be to NC and you are not responsible. I pray for each of you and understand the pain of having a family member pass away. Seek professional help if you need to or get with a grief group if that will help you. Share your anger and hurt, it will help you to cope. No one can feel your personal pain but we can all pray for you.

I would very much like to tell the families how very heart sick I am for all of them.I can relate to your pain as I have been and am still there too. My son & his young bride were taken from us in Dec. 2005 in a tragic accident, all too sudden. One day you have your child in your life and the next...life will never be the same, dont expect it to be, it will however, in time be normal at least a different kind of normal. Surround yourselves with loved ones, but remember to give yourselves time that you need to grieve and no matter what anyone says no two people grieve the same, so have no expectations of yourself. If your not,I urge you to get close to God.If you believe, call out for him he will listen. My son would have been 23 on Nov 1st, my heart still aches and I still grieve but somehow my faith in his love for me has allowed me the strength to go on. Remeber how much they loved you and you them. When I am at my lowest one bible verse has always brought comfort to me. I know it by heart. Eccleslastes 3:1-8 Take care and take it one day at a time. My prayers are with you. email me anytime if you desire I am a good listener if you need to talk. God Bless.

My words cannot change or do anything but there is one whose words brought forth creation including your children for they are a gift from God. It is through his word that will bring you comfort and peace and contentment. In Jesus' own words: Most assuredly, I say to you, he wo hears My words and believes in him who sent me has everlasting life and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life (John 5:24). My prayer is that he reaches each one of you and his spirit will comfort you.

As I continue to listen to the reports of this tragedy, my heart and mind immediately connect with the families, friends, and victims of this horrific accident. Young people who had so much to offer to our state have been lost and will be remembered by so many. There are no words that can express the feelings of sadness and sympathy that I, and my family, feel for those parents, close friends, and families who have lost a loved one. Peace comes from understanding God's love and through His love you will find comfort. We will continue to pray for understanding. You will be in our prayers through this difficult time. My heart breaks for all the families and friends. I have a son at Clemson and he too goes with friends on weekends to others places..the world seems to be theirs in the college years...all we can do,as parents, is pray for their safe keeping and to know God is with them where ever they go. We do not know why things happen and are not suppose to ask God why..I pray for your strength and faith. I was so moved by the USC wreaths including the Clemson wreath. Our lives intertwine more than we think. Friends are Forever. God bless you all.

Having a USC graduate daughter of my own, my heart has been so heavy today. I've prayed for the families, friends, and love-ones of these beautiful children of God who have lost their lives. We will never know why. Only God knows and we must have faith. There will be something Good to come out of this tragedy. In fact, it already has. It has brought the USC family closer together to show that when it counts we DO stick together. My entire family are graduates of USC, except for one. But we are a USC family and die-hard fans. Too often, we as parents never think twice about what our children are doing once they've left the nest. But no matter what or how old they get, they will always be our children. God bless and keep you during this time of unbearable pain and know that All of USC is praying for "our" loss,

My heart goes out to all who experienced a loss in the fire. As a mother of college students, I can only feel sorrow and know "there but the grace of God go I." I want to urge the families to be very aware of the needs the friends will have as they grieve their friends. From personal experience, I know how consuming their grief will be as well as for some their guilt. I cannot urge families enough to stay close to their children and be aware and supportive. They will need you not only for the weeks ahead but possibly for several years in advance. May God be with everyone.

Whenever you put USC and Clemson together most people think of our rivalries in athletics but sadly this concerns something much more tragic. I am a USC fan but I would like to send out my condolences to those members of USC who lost their lives Sunday morning and of course to the student from Clemson University as well. We are all members of the same state so no matter what we chose as our team we are still apart of the same family.

Last October my family stayed next door to Changing Channels. Although no one was staying there that particular weekend, ther were several houses close by where college students were staying for the weekend. Having a sixteen year old daughter myself, I couldn't help but notice how much fun those kids were having. I also know that at that age friends and fun are top priorities. I hope it gives you some comfort to know that those kids were probably having the time of their life down there. I know it certainly makes me appreciate the pleasant encounters I have had with college students at OI in the past. I know yout kids where just as polite and fun loving. You will be in my prayers now and everytime I send my daughter away for the weekend.

My heart goes out to the families, friends and loved ones of those who passed away. I lost my Aunt(41) and Cousin(17)on December 8, 2006 to a house fire. As I was watching the news tonight, I recalled how my family hurt over the tragic end to the lives of two people we loved dearly. The loss of a life so young, like my cousin, is difficult to comprehend. I have no words to express my deep sorrow I feel, I would never want anyone to face what my family and now all of you are facing. I pray that you can find comfort in God and peace in your heart and mind. I know the road ahead is a difficult one , but I pray you find the strength to endure. May your loved ones rest in peace and may you carry their memory with you.

I'm a Tri Delta at USC..this is my first semester in the sorority and I've never felt so close to this many GREAT girls in my life..We're the biggest family you can imagine and we're clinging to each other in this difficult time. None of us can imagine what you as the family are going through. We offer our love and condolenses to you and the loved ones. Know that we truly loved your children along with the rest of the Greek and Gamecock community. They will all be greatly missed..But they'll never be forgotten! Delta Love
