Man arrested after drug bust in Sumter

SUMTER (WIS) - What started as a traffic stop ended as a drug bust in Sumter.

Sumter County Sheriff's Department arrested 32-year-old Alphonzo Choice of Wedgefield after finding $23,000 worth of cocaine, a loaded handgun and some cash during a traffic stop on Friday.

Investigator Trevor Brown pulled Choice over for a broken taillight on Highway 261 and Camp McBoykin Road around 2pm.  Brown noticed a large bulge in Choice's pants pocket.  After Choice was frisked that bulged turned out to be a 100 gram bag of cocaine.  When Choice arrived at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center, another bag weighting around 136 grams was found.

Police also found a Hi-Point 9mm handgun, with seven rounds in the magazine, and $302 in cash in the glove box of the car.  Choice's 7-year-old son was also in the car with no seatbelt.  The child was released to his mother.

Choice was charged with trafficking cocaine.  He was released on a $40,000 surety bond Saturday.
