Two fatal accidents reported on Thursday

MIDLANDS - Authorities say there were two fatal accidents in the Midlands on Thursday evening.

The first happened around 4pm Thursday on Hermitage Pond Road west of Camden.

A 56-year-old man was driving a Chevy pick-up, he ran off the road and his car hit several trees. He was the only one in the vehicle.

The second happened around 5:20 Thursday evening a mile south of Snelling. Two vehicles were involved, and one was a go-cart.

The driver of the go-cart was 20-year-old Chastity Williams from Barnwell. The four-year-old passenger, Madison Simmons, died. Williams was taken to the hospital.

The second vehicle was a Toyota van. The driver was 61-year-old Chester Gilbert, also from Barnwell. Both were traveling west on Moore Road.
