WIS News Radio host Gene McKay laid to rest

(Columbia) March 31, 2007 - He had one of the Midlands' most well-known voices, but many remember him as a good-spirited man with a kind word for everyone he met.

Seventy-three-year-old radio host Gene McKay was laid to rest Saturday.

McKay went to the hospital for back surgery on march 12th, he passed away Thursday morning.

McKay was on Columbia radio for more than 40 years, spending 13 of them on WIS News Radio.

At his funeral Saturday in Columbia, some folks shared fond memories of the beloved announcer.

"Gene was always happy he was always a very good spirited man and who said hello to everyone in the building," said neighbor Melanie Lobel.

He even filled in on WIS for Joe Pinner as "Mr. Knozit."
