Letter reveal cop killer's personal demons, strong beliefs

(Abbeville-AP) February 19, 2007 - Letters show an Abbeville man convicted of killing police officers considers himself a patriot and has no regrets about his actions.

A jury in Abbeville meets Tuesday to consider whether 39-year-old Steven Bixby should die for killing the officers in 2003.

Bixby and his parents were upset the state was taking land to widen the road in front of the house.

Bixby signed hundreds of pages of letters after his arrest with "chaotic patriot Steve." Some of the letters to a former girlfriend were used in his trial.

He wrote that he could have turned the day into a "bloodbath" if he had wanted to do so.

Sheriff's Sergeant Danny Wilson and State Constable Donnie Ouzts were killed.

Bixby's parents, Arthur and Rita, also are charged in the case and are awaiting trial.
